LP tackles NLC, insists Abure isn’t working for APC

LP also fingered those disappointed that Abure’ retained his position as those  behind the narrative that Labour Party is backing APC

The Labour Party (LP) on Friday denied the allegation that the Julius Abure leadership of the party is working to ensure the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) wins the 2027 presidential election.

This was made known in Abuja by the National Publicity Secretary of the LP, Obiora Ifoh, who also knocked the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) for failing its members.

On October 10, actor-turned politician  Kenneth Okonkwo said in an interview with Arise TV that the APC would choose the presidential candidate of the LP in 2027 with Abure as its national chair.

He added that the LP as presently constituted, is now a “housemaid” to the APC.

“I can tell you that Labour Party as presently constituted is now a housemaid to the APC. The 2027 presidential candidate of the Labour Party will be decided on the table of the APC,” Okonkwo said.

Responding, Ifoh described the narrative as misleading, mischievous, and a calculated attempt to continue to distract, derail, and also give the party leadership a bad name to hang it.

According to him, after the recent court judgment upholding the leadership of Julius Abure as the national chairman of the Labour Party, some persons have tried to push the narrative that the Labour Party was working for the APC, and that is why the LP has been winning all its court cases.

He continued, “I must state clearly that the LP has been and is still critical of APC more than NLC. We put it on record that the NLC, in all its ramifications, has failed the Nigerian workers.

“Today, Nigerian workers are oppressed, the economy is not working, there are unfair practices against workers, and nobody speaks for the oppressed workers in Nigeria, except the current leadership of the party.

“If there is any leadership of the party from inception that has been very critical of the government, it is the Abure leadership of the Labour Party.

“For the first time, the leadership of the party under Barrister Julius Abure has been able to record unprecedented achievements.”
