Kudos, knocks as comedienne Mummy Wa releases First Nigerian-Korean Movie, ‘My Sunshine’

Nigerian Comedienne and Actor, Kemi Ikuseedun, popularly known as Mummy Wa, has released a Nigerian-Korean movie, My Sunshine, which she created and produced.
The movie which premiered on YouTube on October 5th, 2024, has JJC Skillz as the director. Popular actors including Chinedu Ikedieze, Mr Marcaroni, Olayode Juliana featured in the movie.
My Sunshine portrays the high school experience filled with love and friendship. The theme captivates lovers of Korean dramas while rooted in a Nigerian setting.
Mummy Wa said the inspiration behind the Nigerian-Korean movie was to offer something unique to Nigerians who love Korean movies.

“I wanted to take it up a notch and offer something that blends different cultural influences. A lot of us watch a variety of movies. While I enjoy Nigerian films, I’ve always had a strong interest in Korean movies. So, I decided to incorporate elements from what I’ve watched in Korean dramas into My Sunshine,” she said per Vanguard report.
After the premiere of this movie, there are shocking backlashes from Korean drama watchers.
An X user @malisecullen said: “This Nigerian movie with casts speaking Korean is giving me nightmares bro Eii”
Another user, @bjmxy added: “Nigerians produced a Korean movie so called. From the snippets I have seen, it’s peak tomfoolery”
@_Ceys_lonlyfans also said: “1st Nigerian Korean movie and the whole time it’s the cringest thing you’ve ever seen, I died of second hand embarrassment 5 times”
Despite the backlash, Nigerian Korean drama watchers are happy with the movie because Korean Language is very hard to speak and learn.
This movie is grossing views on YouTube following the praises and backlashes it received from the watchers of the film. In less than three days of its release, it has raked over 260,000 views on YouTube.
Nigerian movie market is set to continue to grow and be diversified with this movie.
