Ugochinyere blasts PDP governors for fence-sitting on Rivers LG election

Lawmaker representing Ideato Federal Constituency, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, has berated governors in the opposition political parties for not showing solidarity with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara in the standoff with the police over the state’s upcoming local government election.
Ugochinyere, who is the spokesperson of the Opposition Coalition, said what is currently happening in Rivers State would someday be visited in their states if they fail to condemn its manifestations now.
He said PDP governors ought to have flown to Rivers State to stand by Fubara in helping to repel the attack against democracy.
Fubara and his security detail earlier foiled an attempt to steal election materials. Reports indicated that the alleged thieves were dressed in police uniforms.
In a statement, Ugochinyere accused the PDP governors of making the opposition look like a joke.
He said: “Serious opposition Governors would have flown to Rivers State right now and be seen with Governor Fubara side by side as a show of strong solidarity. The right of Rivers people to vote is under attack from federal agents and you are drinking tea. Please stop making the opposition look like jokers.
“Let the PDP and opposition Governors fly down to Rivers State, and boldly stand with Governor Fubara who has displayed great courage to defend democracy at all costs. Those at the gate of democracy in Rivers will soon launch an attack on your states, and what you do today can make or mar our democracy.
“The alleged failed attempt by police officers to run away with electoral materials for the LGA election is a treasonable action that requires strong condemnation and solidarity from opposition Governors. Show that you are indeed leaders of this party for once as not adults scared of pro-Wike’s group’s ranting. #Rivers LGA election is going on.”
