Wike restates threat against  other  PDP governors, vows never to reconcile with  Fubara

By Ishaya Ibrahim

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has restated his threat against Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who are supporting his political enemy, Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State.

Wike had stirred controversy penultimate week when he warned PDP governors supporting Fubara. He said they should either desist from doing so or risk having political fire lit in their various states

Speaking as a guest during a Channels Television programme, Politics Today, Wike restated his threat against the governors who support Fubara. He said he has the capacity to cause the same crisis they intend to create against him in Rivers State.

Wike also responded to agitation by some groups in Rivers State pushing for the replacement of Fubara in the 2027 election. He said he would never support Fubara again in his political life, saying despite the governor coming from a minority area of the state, he went against the tide to support him, only to be repaid with betrayal.

Wike also attacked Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark, doubting the appelage of ‘elder statesman’ used in describing the politician, saying age is not the determinant of the title. He alleged that Edwin Clark was in opposition to Fubara’s emergence as governor before the 2023 election on the grounds that Opobo people where the governor comes from were not Ijaw enough.

He also explained his fallout with the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, saying after helping the governor win a second term, Obaseki turned against him. He said in the runoff to the September 21 election, Obaseki brought the PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo to him for his support. Wike said he refused.

Wike confirmed that the Edo Resident Electoral Commissioner is his cousin and he influenced his appointment, but said the man would not be biased against the PDP candidate in the Edo election.
