Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has said the upcoming English Premier League (EPL) season will a tough one, saying it will be the “survival of the fittest”.
He made this known while speaking with reporters at the pre-match news conference of his preseason friendly against Arsenal.
The Red Devils missed out on a top-four place last campaign, but went on to beat league champions and city rivals, Man City to clinch the FA Cup.
The Dutch tactician has already added Lenny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee to his squad and both players are expected to feature against Arsenal in the pre-season match scheduled for early hours of Sunday morning.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, Ten Hag said, “We know that because [when] we have injuries, we are vulnerable, and we have to avoid this. First, by getting less injuries and picking up less injuries. And second, our squad has to be that good in depth.
“Of course, the quality we have, but in the depth we have to catch up. And even more, because this will be a season that is survival of the fittest.
“We proved we can beat the best team. Not just once, we did it twice. But also the other games were also very close.
“Our challenge is to do it consistently, that’s what we have to work for.”

Meanwhile, Man City manager, Pep Guardiola, has said he will only sign a contract at the club if it is the right decision for him and the team.
Guardiola’s current deal with the Premier League champions expires in 2025.
Speaking on City’s preseason tour of the USA, the 53-year-old hinted he could decide to extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium.
“I know maybe I was not correct to say in the right moment, when we won the Premier League, but I’m saying that I’ve been eight years in Man City so I’m not being here for eight more years.
“That’s why I’m closer to leaving than staying. But I didn’t say I’m leaving.
“When I’m leaving, I will say I’m leaving. But I didn’t say it.
“I will not rule it out absolutely to extend the contract. I just want to be sure it’s the right decision, not just for me, for the club,” Guardiola said.
