Former Manchester United defender, Patrice Evra, has disagreed with a decision reached by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) during a match at the ongoing Euro 2024 championship in Germany.

Speaking on Sony Sports Network’s Football Extraaa on Friday after Netherlands’ goal in their 0-0 draw against France was disallowed, the former French international said the decision was “shocking.”

According to him, the verdict reached by men manning VAR on the night denied Netherlands a clear goal during the match.

He argued that the Video Assistant Referee, VAR officials, made a mistake when they canceled Xavi Simons’s goal in the second half for offside.

He further joked that legendary singer, Stevie Wonder must have been in the VAR room for such a decision to be taken.

Speaking about the encounter, Evra said: “It’s a shocking decision, that should be a goal. Someone should tell me about this rule.

“The Dutch player was not blocking Maignan’s view. Maybe the person sitting in the VAR room tonight was Stevie Wonder.

“It’s a clear goal. As a Frenchman, I should be finding an excuse, but I can’t; it’s a goal.”
