Izunaso urges business owners to invest in capital market

Senator Osita Izunaso, senator representing Imo West Senatorial District (Orlu Zone), has urged businessmen in Nigeria to invest in capital market for a more business growth.

The senator, who is also the chairman of the Senate Committee on Capital Market and Institutions disclosed this at a banquet held in honour of him by Eminent Senators Club of Nigeria with the theme: Nigeria Business Opportunities and the Capital Market: Reality of Factors Militating Against the Ideal Intentions, recently in Lagos.

Sen. Izunaso while speaking said he once asked an Igbo man what he knows about capital market and he said the only thing he knows is that they asked him to bring hundred million (N100m) and in six months they gave him two hundred million (N200m).

He encouraged businessmen not to delay in investing in capital market as it is the gateway to grow in business, “Tony Elumelu, Dangote, BUA are all who they are today because of Capital Market. Why do you run up and down looking for money while money is there for you to grab. If you invest, in 4, 5, 6 months you will get good returns. New banks owners would soon emerge. Seize this opportunity and invest for a good return. The DG of Sec is here to tell you what to do because it is out job to enlighten people on what to do to progress,” he said.

The director general of the Security and Exchange Commission, (SEC), Emomotimi Agama, while educating those present at the event said capital market is the best place to grow business.

According to him, he would work with the senator to bring development to the capital market, “The regulatory framework of the capital market is being revised to meet the test of time. The future is in the capital market, ” he said.

Chief Afam Chukwuma, the secretary of the club, disclosed that theme of the event was initiated because most of its members are business people. ” The theme will help enlighten our members on the right step to take for their growth. We are sociopolitical club, not the usual social club. We have interest and we are aware and we participate in politics not necessarily by contesting election, but we try to influence policies, we try to see how we can through political involvement better our businesses to continue to do our work as individual and also as community where we do a lot of charities,” he said.

Also, president of the club, Monday N.C. Akunna said their vision are not just to make a great social outings, but to connect with the political corridors of power in order to promote and protect businesses, careers, and to seek for participation as key plates in the harnessing, processing and distribution of both the natural resources and the common wealth.
