The Technical Director of Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) Samuel Onikeku is optimistic that Nigerian Athletes will excel and pick up slots at the CAA Zone Ii AthIetics Championships which kicks off in Ghana on Tuesday.
Speaking in Ghana on Sunday June 2, 2024, Onikeku said every opportunity is available for Nigeria’s men and women athletes to gain more slots to compete at Paris Olympic Games.
” I am very optimistic our AthIetes especially the women’s 4×400m relay team including some of our male athletes will secure Olympic slots in this event.”
Onikeku who is also the AFN leader of delegation said with Ghana and Cote D’Ivoire bringing their elite AthIetes based in United States to seek for qualifications at the Zone ll AthIetics Championships makes the competition very tense and tough.
+In all, I expect our AthIetes to take the opportunity to qualify.”
The Technical Director also insisted that should anything happen and they dont get the slot in Ghana, there are other competitions such as the Nigeria Trials coming up in Edo State between June 16-18 and CAA Senior AthIetics Championships in Duoala Cameroon from June 21-26.
According to him, these Competitions are lined up for Nigeria’s AthIetes to latch on and qualify.
Meanwhile, the CAA Zone ll President Chief Tonobok Okowa arrived Ghana on Monday beaming with confidence for AthIetes from Nigeria and the entire Zone qualification victory.
