Human rights activist and social media influencer, Aisha Yesufu, has rejected the recently re-introduced national anthem, ‘Nigeria We Hail Thee’, refusing to stand while it was being sung.
The incident was captured in a tending video on social media, where the activist was seen sitting at an event where others were standing and reciting the new anthem.
A further peep into the clip revealed her decision to sit rather than stand while others were singing left most of the guests at the event astonished.

However, while sharing the now-viral video clip on her official X handle, Aisha Yesufu tweeted, “Not my anthem.”
TheNiche had earlier reported that the National Assembly recently passed the National Anthem Bill 2024 despite reservations expressed by a lot of Nigerians.
On Wednesday, May 29, President Bola Tinubu assented to the bill, thereby jettisoning the former anthem, ‘Arise O Compatriot’ which was adopted in 1978.
