Former governor of Abia State, Theodore Orji’s wife, Mercy, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
She stated her resignation from the party in a letter dated May 21, and addressed to the chairman PDP Urban Ward 1, Umuahia.
According to Mrs Orji, she is leaving the PDP due to what she called “personal reasons”.
The letter reads in part, “I write to formally resign as a member of the PDP with effect from this day 21st of May 2024 for personal reasons.

“Thank you for your support during my tenure as the first lady of Abia and until date a strong supporter of the party. I wish you all the best.”
This is the latest in the crisis that has befallen Abia State chapter of the PDP in recent times since the party lost the 2023 governorship election to Alex Otti of the Labour Party.
Orji’s son, Chinedum, a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, earlier announced his exit from the PDP.
He also declared he was joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) and has since obtained his membership card.
The PDP had been in control of Abia State since the return to democracy in 1999.
