“Being a warrior is about not giving up,” says Tems, in prep for first world tour in June

“Being a warrior is about not giving up,” says Tems, recounts how “serious illness” scuttled debut album release date

Tems (Temilade Openiyi) has recounted how a “serious illness” forced her to postpone the release of her debut album in 2021 having being forced into surgery which required six months’ recovery.

Tems launched into the global audience in 2020 riding on Wizkid’s hit Essence butdisclosed in a recent interview with The New York Times that her debut album got postponed due to an illness – which she did not disclose – and made her to release her sophomore extended play If Orange Was a Place.

Fighting her way back to health partly inspired her new music, the Osca-nominated singer added, which she said is about embracing life as a warrior.

“Being a warrior is about not giving up,” she said. “Even if they cut your leg, you walk on your knees, you fight on your knees using what you have – and that’s good enough,” Tems said.

Her long-awaited debut album Born In The Wild will arrive June 7, she reiterated.

She is also kicking off her first headline world tour in June.
