DSS debunks reports of invading Kano Emir’s palace

By Jeffrey Agbo

The Department of State Services (DSS) has debunked media reports that its personnel invaded the palace of the Emir of Kano.

Director of DSS in Kano, Muhammad Alhassan, told journalists that the secret police only deployed its personnel to the palace as part of security arrangement for the proposed visit of the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, to the Emir.

He said the personnel were withdrawn following the postponement of the visit as the Emir Aminu Ado Bayero was not in town.

Alhassan said that there was no iota of truth in the report alleging that DSS operatives stormed the Emir’s palace in connection with the recent development at Kano State House of Assembly.

“We drafted our men as part of our schedules on the visit of the First Lady Oluremi Tinubu but learned that she was not going there anymore and we withdrew our men,” he said.

Alhassan urged Nigerians to disregard the reports which, according to him, were aimed at causing unnecessary tension and misinformation.

The State House of Assembly had on Thursday repealed the Kano Emirates Council Law, 2019, thereby dissolving the Emirates of Bichi, Gaya, Karaye and Rano.

The development also signals the return of Muhammad Sanusi as Emir after he was deposed in 2020 by former governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
