One dead, two injured in Abeokuta’s gas tanker explosion

The gas tanker according to FRSC went up in flames after it suffered brake failure and crashed into the road barricade

One person lost his life, while two others are battling for survival at the hospital after a gas tanker exploded at Ita-Oshin, Abeokuta, on Saturday.

The incident was confirmed by spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command, Mrs Florence Okpe, while briefing journalists in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. 

According to her, the unfortunate incident occurred at 4:10 pm and six people were involved.

She further added that one person who was the motor boy, died on the spot,  while two people were injured and rushed to the hospital.

Speaking on the accident, Okpe said: “A total of five vehicles were involved, including two Nissan cars with registration numbers AAN 544 YC, LSD 993 CY, a Sino tanker marked T23771 LA, a Micra marked GDB 841 XR and a Honda CRV without registration number.”

She went on to say the gas tanker went up in flames after it suffered brake failure and crashed into the road barricade.

She also revealed that some vehicles and shops around the vicinity were also burnt.

She added: “The fire service was contacted immediately and the scene was cordoned-off to avoid a secondary crash.”
