A portion of the popular Sokoto Central Market, which housed the motorcycle section has been gutted by fire.
As at the time of this report, there are conflicting reports on the cause of the inferno which an eye witness said started on Monday morning.
Another source, however, revealed that the fire emanated from a dump site close to the motorcycle section.
Speaking on the incident, the chairman of Motorcycles Marketers Association, Shehu Muhammad, said they could not quantify the number of motorcycles destroyed because the fire was still raging.

He went on to say men of the federal and state fire services are currently battling the fire, adding that it will take some time before it can be quenched.
Muhammad said: “We cannot quantify the number of motorcycles burnt down by the fire now because the fire is still raging.
“But many people lost their shops along with their motorcycles because they could not come in time as the fire started around 6am.
“But men of the federal and state fire services are currently battling, but I know it will take some time before they can quench it all.”
He, however, begged the state government to come to the aid of those who lost their property during the inferno.
