In a significant move towards restructuring and rationalization of Federal Government parastatals, agencies, and commissions, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume has been appointed to lead the implementation team. The team’s mandate is to execute the recommendations outlined in the Orosanye Panel Report and White Paper.

The inauguration of the team, announced by the Federal Government yesterday, marks a pivotal moment in the government’s commitment to enhancing efficiency and reducing the cost of governance. Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), confirmed the development in a statement released last night.

SGF Senator Akume, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the inauguration, emphasized the paramount importance of implementing the White Papers derived from the report. The implementation process entails a spectrum of actions including mergers, relocations, subsuming, or scrapping of certain parastatals, agencies, and commissions.

President Tinubu’s approval for the implementation of the report signifies a decisive step forward, marking a culmination of efforts spanning 12 years since the panel submitted its recommendations. Previous administrations had made multiple attempts to address the recommendations without success.

Joining Senator Akume in the implementation committee are notable figures from various sectors of the government. The committee boasts the presence of Attorney-General (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi; Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu; Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF), Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan; and Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, Hajia Hadiza Bala Usman.

The composition of the committee reflects a strategic blend of legal, administrative, and policy expertise, poised to navigate the complexities inherent in the implementation process. Their collective leadership underscores the government’s resolve to execute reforms aimed at optimizing resource allocation and enhancing service delivery across federal agencies and commissions.

The implementation team’s work is anticipated to be rigorous and multifaceted, requiring meticulous planning, stakeholder engagement, and transparent decision-making processes. As they embark on this critical undertaking, all eyes remain on the committee, eager to witness the transformative impact of their efforts on the nation’s governance landscape.
