Defendant pleads guilty to charge of dealing in narcotic drug

Justice Ibrahim Ahmad Kala of a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Tuesday adjourned till February 27 for the review of facts of the case in charge No FHC/L/20c/24 in which a defendant Chike Agu pleaded guilty.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) charged Mr Chike Agu, 47, before the court on one count charge for dealing in 364.3 Kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa a.k.a. marijuana, a prohibited narcotics without lawful authority.

After listening to the charge preferred against him, the defendant pleaded guilty to the charge.

In view of the plea of the defendant, the NDLEA prosecutor Ifeoma M. Erondu applied for an adjournment for review of facts of the case and urged the court to remand the defendant in the custody of the Nigeria Correctional Centre.

Mr Dennis Warri who volunteered to represent the defendant did not oppose the application for adjournment.

Consequently, Justice Kala adjourned the case till February 27 for review of facts and conviction. He ordered that the defendant be remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ikoyi Lagos.

The one count charge against the defendant reads;
“That you Chike Agu ‘m’, 47 years, on or about the 14th day of November, 2023 at Becam Street, Canal Estate, Ago Palace, Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, without lawful authority dealt in 364.3 Kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa, a prohibited narcotics and you thereby committed an offence as provided for and punishable under Section 11(c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004”
