Killers of Olukoro of Koro-Ekiti in Ekiti local government area of Kwara State, Oba Segun Aremu, on Thursday night, have demanded N100m ransom for the release of the deceased’s wife and another victim who were whisked away on the fateful day.

The gunmen, whose identities and number are yet to be ascertained, were said to have carried out the killing on Thursday night when they invaded the palace of the monarch in the town.

LEADERSHIP quotes the chairman of the Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) of Ekiti local government, Kayode Bayode, as confirming that the kidnappers had placed N100m ransom on the late monarch’s wife and one other kidnap victim.

“Yes, they have contacted the family demanding for N100m ransom before they will release them. But we are still on the issue for now. That is all I can say for now. Though there is still panic in the community, the heavy presence of security has helped to calm the situation,” Bayode stated.

The kidnappers, after killing the monarch, abducted his wife and two other persons. They reportedly freed one of the abductees, an 87-year-old man on account of old age.

Kwara State Government has assured that the gunmen would be apprehended. Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq in condemning the killing, said it was reckless, shocking, and abominable.

The governor, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, charged the security agencies not to spare any resources to track down the perpetrators, free the spouse and others taken away, and bring them to book.

“We will certainly get the perpetrators and ensure that this is their last crime against humanity,” the governor said.
