Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen has refuted claims that he is under pressure to make a mark at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Osimhen, who recently won the African Footballer of the Year award due to his goal exploits, has scored only once in two appearances for Nigeria in the competition.
The 25-year-old hitman has also fluffed several clear-cut chances in front of goal as well.
After the shock misses, many pundits and fans attributed his poor marksmanship at the torunament to the pressure of being Africa’s current best player.

However, addressing the innuendos, the forward debunked the claims, stating that he is not interested in personal glory, but more focused on helping the Super Eagles achieve success in Cote d’Ivoire.
Speaking to reporters in Abidjan, Osimhen said: “I am not under pressure,”
He added: “I have won the title (African Player of the Year), but it’s now in the past.
“What is most important for me now is to do well with the team, make sure the team do well and win the AFCON.
“I don’t care about my individual performance. I could be on the bench and the other players get the job done.”
Super Eagles after picking 4 points in their first two group games, will now take on Guinea-Bissau at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan on Monday at 7pm Nigerian time.
