President Bola Tinubu has assured the people of the South-East of Nigeria that his government will bring back lasting peace to the geopolitical zone, promising that he is determined to “extinguish the fire” responsible for the ongoing mayhem “permanently”
He made this known on Friday, while unveiling the Peace in South-East Project (PISE-P) during the Thanksgiving Service/Homecoming ceremony organised in honour of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu.
The well-attended event which took place at the Sports Arena of Bende Local Government Area is a five-year programme, initiated by the deputy speaker to tackle the intricate socio-economic challenges and security threats prevalent in the South-East.

Speaking at the event, Tinubu, who was represented by the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, described the zone as “an industrial hub, which plays a vital role in boosting the nation’s economic development”.
The President went on to express concern that his government is bothered by the extensive economic devastation inflicted on the region by non-state actors.
He, however, promised that the FG would not allow any sinister operations by economic saboteurs, “who masquerade as advocates of Ndigbo, to continue in the region.
“We know that the South-East has weathered too many storms but the current economic stagnation has shaken the foundation of the region.
“We are not going to sit back and watch the fire go beyond what we can handle.
“We are here to extinguish the fire permanently,” He further said.
