Ogebe blasts acquisition of luxury items by leaders feeding fat on ailing economy

By Jeph Ajobaju, Chief Copy Editor

Humanitarian lawyer Emmanuel Ogebe has blasted President Bola Tinubu for seeking a Presidential Yacht and federal lawmakers for acquiring luxury SUVs amid great economic hardship in the ranks of poor citizens.

Ogebe, a member of the Justice for Jos Project, condemned the “misguided and corrupt appetite of government officials feeding fat on the ailing economy” while citizens are perishing, in a statement titled  “Yachts for a crime clime and clan” issued from Washington.

“I was stunned to learn that the president’s son flew a presidential jet allegedly to play polo in Kano at the expense of poor citizens,” he said.

“This is exactly what Abacha’s son did in 1995 when they crashed in Kano as well. Rescuers recovered thousands of burnt foreign currencies at the crash site. Apparently riches are useless in the after-life and cannot buy life here either.

“That the Tinubus have decided to reenact the worst legacies and excesses of the Abachas is deeply disheartening.

“Even Buhari’s son crashed a multimillion dollar power bike gallivanting in the midst of fuel price hike.

“For Tinubu, who is rumored to own a plane, to rather have his son use the one of Nigeria is despicable.

“Similarly, there’s no sensible Navy in the world that has a presidential yacht. Navies don’t use yachts. Yachts are not for warfare. They’re for partying for people who have excess wealth to waste or illgotten monies to launder.

“Buhari illegally bought half a billion dollars worth of propeller aircraft from the US for the Airforce before seeking budgetary appropriation from the National Assembly.

“Now Tinubu has already acquired a presidential yacht before seeking appropriation from NASS. APC is evil and Tinubu has outdone Buhari in budgetary criminality. At least Buhari’s was for war not owambe like Russian oligarchs’ yachts.

“Even Buhari seized the luxury yacht Deziani corruptly acquired. APC is competing to outdo PDP’s corruption. At least, they’ve been successful in that.

“If Nigeria needed a yacht, they could have kept Deziani’s own which they went all the way to court in US to seize.

“But Nigeria that begs for and collects donated warships from America decided to buy on credit a luxury presidential yacht, which America the biggest military power in the world, doesn’t have. No wonder, our military is ineffective in the creeks and oceans.

“At no point in the history of Nigeria has a president of Nigeria been required to spend a day at sea.

“Even if he is required to spend a day at sea, a yacht is as insecure as a canoe for his safety.

“Buhari came promising to sell off presidential jets and turn the rest into an airline. Never happened. He used the country as his medical tourism ATM Card just like Tinubu. Only now Tinubu is adding a boat to the presidential fleet.

“Each state got a loan and grant of N5 billion as fuel subsidy palliative but the presidency got a N5 billion boat whose fueling and maintenance costs will be paid by suffering citizens in need of palliative.

“Whose idea was this? If this was an idea of the military then we can understand why we can only “technically defeat” foes.

Tinubu acquiring a boat without an ocean in Abuja

“In Nigeria we have terrorists in forests who have imported armored tanks without having sea ports and a president with a boat without an ocean in Abuja!

“A post online says, ‘Life is Extremely Tough in Nigeria…. Yesterday I met a man selling a Cat🐱. I told him I don’t want it. Moreover, I don’t have Rats🐀 in my house… but he Insisted and said, “Get the Cat, I will bring the Rats in the evening.’

“Now that Tinubu has a boat but no ocean in Abuja to sail it in, watch out for the next supplementary budget. There will be a contract to build a presidential ocean in Abuja.

“The mass looting of crude oil and oil subsidy fraud is an existential threat to Nigeria’s economy. Rather than prioritize on this, the equipment used for monitoring and stemming the maritime crimes was sabotaged. Instead a yacht was purchased.

“Now we have the Navy escorting oil bunkering ships. Nigeria is not a crime scene. Nigeria is a crime.

“A crime scene is where a crime has occurred and law enforcement takes charge. Nigeria is a continuing crime!

“The political misruling class is tightening our belt around our necks but loosening their belt around their bellies.

“Tinubu should rescind and return the yacht now! He cannot remove fuel subsidy for Nigerians to subsidize owambe (partying). Nigeria is not Lagos!”

“I want to finally in conclusion recognize my team from America,” Ogebe said at a Global Impact award ceremony in Abuja.

“Dr. Williams … My lovely nurse: Carla who came with me to Nigeria nine years ago and she’s here with me this time around again.

“And she brought her friend Tanya from Miami.

“These people are providing medical services in IDP camps in Nigeria today and yesterday ….

“These are people who are doing for you what your government is not doing for you.

God will bless their lives!” https://www.facebook.com/100066841516904/posts/pfbid0Y39EXpMtrn7kErdbwFNqbVT77ivLCb6zvWx5QXxXttSv91xPnJigy92anCFTt5sMl/?d=w&mibextid=qC1gEa
