Aganga’s advice came the same day Tinubu withdrew the appointment of a 24-year-old fresh graduate of Mechanical Engineering as the chairman of Federal Road Maintenance Agency.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been advised to prioritize the appointment of technocrats against politicians in his government.

The advice was given by former minister of finance, and also of Industry, Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga.

Speaking as a guest lecturer at the 3rd Adeola Odutola lecture hosted by the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) on Thursday, Aganga said at a minimum, competent technocrats who have a reputation for delivering should be appointed to the boards and management of government agencies.

Aganga said: “Nations fail because institutions are weak or do not exist. Any industrial plan will fail if the relevant economic institutions are weak.
