Ace Afrobeats singer, David Adeleke aka Davido, has claimed he ran his record label, DMW for four years without gaining any financial reward from the artistes signed to the music company.

The ‘Electricity’ crooner made this known during a recent interview with a popular United States media personality, Steve Stoute.

Davido, however, added that he eventually started running the record company as a business venture as Afrobeats gained global reception.

He further said he had to educate his artistes about the rudiments of the music business after the initial four years.

Speaking during the chat, he said: “You know my label was really more like a family to me. I was young. I was just happy putting my boy on to me, that is what it was really all about for me.

“I ran my label for four years, and I didn’t take one dime from my artistes and I was paying for videos, accommodation and their welfare just because I was happy seeing that my success could rub up on this person, that was money for me.

“But obviously, Afrobeats got to a point now where it is global. So I now have to explain to the artistes these days that this is music business. And you have to spend money to make money,” he said.

Davido’s record label, DMW was established in 2016 and it has produced music talents such as Peruzzi, Dremo, Mayorkun, among others.

Meanwhile, another famous singer and songwriter, Tobechukwu Okoh, better known as Peruzzi has bragged he was the brain behind Davido‘s hit songs ‘Unavailable’ and ‘Risky’.

Peruzzi, who is a signee of Davido’s record label, DMW, made this known in a video on Instagram, while sharing a freestyle session in the studio.

In the now-viral video, Peruzzi said he was not present when he wrote ‘Unavailable’ but the result surpassed his expectations.

“Risky, but what did you expect when I wrote Risky? Let us go to pen game talk, I let my pen game talk even when I am high. You will not see my pen game drop.

“When I wrote ‘Unavailable’ I was still unavailable, I did it though; see the outcome, unbelievable,” he said.

The song ‘Risky’, which was released in 2019 featured Jamaican singer, Popcaan, Unavailable on the other hand is a track off Davido’s latest and fourth studio album named ‘Timeless’.
