Justice Ibironke Harrison of a Lagos High Court on Monday convicted and sentenced suspended Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Darambi Vandi, to death by hanging for shooting a Lagos lawyer, Mrs Omobolanle Raheem to death last Christmas.
Justice Harrison handed down the verdict after holding that the prosecution had proven its case against the suspect beyond all reasonable doubt.
The Judge, in the judgment, held that the evidence of the 11 witnesses who testified for the prosecution was credible and convincing enough to convict the suspended Police officer.
Justice Harrison, therefore, sentenced the convict to death, stating that: “You are to be hung by the neck until you are dead. May God have mercy on your soul.”

Vandi was arrested and charged to court after shooting Raheem in the chest on Dec. 25, 2022, at Ajah Roundabout, on Lekki- Expressway, Lagos State.
The prosecution team led by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Moyosore Onigbanjo, called 11 witnesses, including eight police officers.
The other prosecution witnesses include two eyewitnesses and a pathologist.
