WcH 2023: Sports Minister receives Team Nigeria from Budapest, assures adequate funding

Sports Minister John Owan has lived up to up his promise to personally receive the Nigerian Team from the World Athletics Championship which ended in Budapest in Sunday in Budapest, Hungary.

Enoh, was appointed sports minister a few days before the commencement of the Championship, said that he needed to be physically present to welcome the athletes, to signal his commitment towards increased attention for athletics.

The Team which touched down in Abuja with most of the Athletes absent looked downcast and understandably low in spirit.
But the Minister quickly assured them of better days ahead.

Hon. Enoh promised the contingent of adequate funding under his leadership as the sports minister, adding that long term preparation and planning is needed for the team to succeed at tourneys and no stone will be left unturned to that effect.

Team Nigeria however made some improvements in some of the events especially in the relays, throws with relatively young Athletes.

The Team expressed concern on inadequate funding for Competitions both home and abroad which the minister stepped in and assured them of more funding and repair of decaying infrastructures that would aide their performance at further Competitions.

Though, there was no further promise of largese for Athletes as usual, but the Athletes interview said, the minister is new and would take his time to respond to gratis for Athletes notwithstanding that no medal accompanied the home.
