The Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa has finally spoken after the Lagos State House of Assembly rejected 17 of the 39 commissioner-nominees sent by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for screening.

Obasa, who attempted to clear the air while presiding over the plenary session on Monday, insisted the legislators are not “fighting” with the governor, but hinted that the dispute might have arisen because of the number of technocrats on the list.

The Speaker, however, kept mum about the details of why the 17 commissioner nominees were rejected, claiming that no matter the level of threat, the lawmakers would not reveal what they discovered during the screening of the people nominated.

He went on to argue that the decision was aimed at protecting the ruling party in the state, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking during the plenary, Obasa said: “So, I am trying to protect my party and I would continue to do that but we are not going to sacrifice service to our people in the name of technocrats, no.

“If anybody is interested to know why we have taken such decision, he should approach the House.

“The House, as a body, restrains itself from exposing what was discovered during the screening exercise and we would not be forced to spill it,”
