Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu has rewarded the brave performance of the Super Falcons at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand by giving each player $10,000.
The Nigerian ladies made it to the Round of 16 of the competition and only bowed out on penalties against the Three Lionesses of England, who are currently in the finals.
The nine-time African champions caught the eye with their impressive performance in the competition, as they remained unbeaten in regulation time throughout the tournament.

Eulogising Tinubu for her kind gesture while speaking with BBC Sport Africa, experienced Super Falcons centre-back, Osinachi Ohale thanked the First Lady for the gift.
She said: “We are grateful for this unexpected gesture because for several years we’ve been winning the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) and I can’t remember us being honoured or rewarded this way.
“We appreciate the federal government for their support and encouragement. And we also thank Nigerians for the remarkable support during the tournament,” she added.
Prior to this, Remi Tinubu hosted the players in Abuja on Monday, August 14, where he praised them for their “unbreakable spirit and unwavering strength”.
The First Lady a week earlier, held a similar meeting with the Nigeria female basketball team, D’Tigresses after their victory at the just concluded FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Tournament in Rwanda.
