After his post surfaced online, it did not sit down well with South Africans, who trooped to his comment section to accuse him of wrongly crediting Nigeria as the origin of Amapiano

Responding to the accusation, Swae Lee in follow-up tweets clarified his initial post, saying he added the Nigerian flag because he has  Nigerian roots.

He also explained that his intention was not to give the impression that the genre originated from the West African country but identify with where he originated from.

Swae Lee wrote, “For the ones outraged about the flag, I put it because I’m partly Nigerian. I didn’t say anything about the creation of the genre y’all tweaking.”

He went on to applaud the South Africans for creating such a fantastic genre of music.

“Bigs up to the South Africans for creating this beautiful sh*t,” he added
