Judo federation meets to honour Judokas in Abuja

Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF), will hold its board meeting in Abuja next week’s Wednesday, June 25.The meeting will be held at its national office at the secretariat of the National Sports Commission (NSC), in Abuja.

 

The Director, North Central zone of the NJF, Alhaji Suleiman Damisa said that the meeting is very crucial as a lot of things are scheduled for discussion for the development of judo in Nigeria.“We are meeting in Abuja next week and we have scheduled to discuss many things and more importantly is that the board of NJF has decided to honour our athletes that did the nation proud at the Africa Open Championship which was held in Mauritius early this year and the just recently held African Youth Games in Botswana,” said Suleiman.

The judokas won gold medals from the two African championships.

The Director also disclosed that the board meeting will discuss the federation’s annual programme for the remaining six months of the year 2014 and how Nigeria will be ably represented at the coming Olympic qualifiers.

 

Corroborating Alhaji Suleiman, the players’ representative on the NJF board, Mr. Segun Gbayi said that the reception the board wants to hold for the victorious judokas is a good development will motivate the athletes to give their best for the country in future engagement.

“I’m glad that the NJF determines to honour the athletes this time. It will go a long way to motivate them. The cash award the judokas will be given will add value to their life,” said Gbayi.
