BREAKING: Godswill Akpabio elected Senate President

Akpabio is the preferred choice of President Bola Tinubu for the Senate Presidency.

Senator Godswill Akpabio, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been elected President of the 10th Senate.

He was elected on Tuesday.

Akpabio, a former minister of Niger Delta Affairs, garnered 63 votes to defeat the former governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, who polled 46 votes in a keenly contested election.

Akpabio is the preferred choice of President Bola Tinubu for the Senate Presidency.

The senator-elect for Borno South, Ali Ndume, nominated Akpabio as president of the Senate. Elisha Abbo, senator-elect for Adamawa North, nominated Yari.

After the lawmakers cast their votes in alphabetical order, two representatives of each team came to count their votes.

Senators Adeola Solomon and Ndume came out to represent Akpabio, while Abbo and the senator-elect representing Ondo South Senatorial District, Jimoh Ibrahim, represented Yari.
