South Korea, Uruguay join Flying Eagles in quarter-final

South Korea beat Ecuador 3-2, while Uruguay defeated Gambia 1-0 in the U-20 World Cup last 16 games played on Thursday night

South Korea and Uruguay have joined six other countries in the quarter-final of the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup currently going on in Argentina.  

The last two places of the last 8 stage of the age grade competition were confirmed on Thursday night after the two teams booked their places with victories in their respective Rounds of 16 encounters.

While South Korea beat South American representative, Ecuador 3-2, Uruguay edged past Nigeria’s west African neighbours, Gambia with a lone goal.

The two nations after their wins joined the likes of Israel, Brazil, Colombia, Italy, Nigeria and USA in the quarter-final stage.

On Saturday, one of the pre-tournament favourites, Brazil will take on Israel, while Colombia will tackle the only European side remaining in the competition, Italy.

A day later, South Korea will square up against Nigeria, while USA and Uruguay will slug it out for the final slot in the semi-final.

The quarter-final fixtures and kick-off (Nigerian time) are as follows: 

Israel vs Brazil – Saturday, 6.30 pm

Colombia vs Italy – Saturday, 10 pm

South Korea vs Nigeria – Sunday, 6.30 pm

USA vs Uruguay – Sunday, 10 pm
