I lost my youthful years doing house chores, says septuagenarian runner

A United States of America-based long-distance runner Justus Okoh said he lost his youthful sporting years doing house chores back in the day.

The over 7O years runner who participated in the 10th Okpekpe 10km race said following his passion for sports and willingness to catch up with lost years, he decided to follow his childhood hubby, athletics.

“This is my Fourth attempt at Okpekpe 10km race. From the United States of America, I do attend every year, though, without the expectation to win races but loaded with passion for long-distance races.”

Justus Okoh who is a medical doctor insisted that his interest in participating in the race is to encourage the younger generation to take up sports as a career, adding that as Old he may appear, he still possesses the energy to run and finish Okpekpe 10km races, even in the US.

“I have been participating in marathon races in the USA but more in Nigeria, my first marathon race in Nigeria was in 2003 in Lagos organised by one of the telcos”.

Okoh says as long as he is fit, he would be coming yearly to Okpekpe to run, his yearning passion for sports has pushed him to make time and resources available to take part in sports he described as an instrument that had kept him going strong in life at his age.

“I have the desire to encourage the youth to participate more in sports and not when they were old,” said Justus Okoh
