Seun Kuti jets out to Switzerland after incarceration

Kuti was at the Chief Magistrate Court Yaba, Lagos on Wednesday to resume his trial but the case was adjourned till July 3rd

Afrobeats singer, Seun Kuti has left the country barely 48 hours after the Nigerian police released him from detention. 

The Grammy-nominated singer was remanded at the State Criminal, Investigations and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti, Yaba, Lagos on the order of a magistrate court for assaulting a police officer, but was eventually granted bail on Tuesday after he was detained for eight days.

Kuti was in court on Wednesday, May 24, to resume his trial at the Chief Magistrate Court Yaba in Lagos but the proceedings were adjourned till July 3.

The postponement was because the magistrate who was expected to preside over the case was absent from court.

On Thursday, May 25, the singer took to his social media page to announce he was on his way to Switzerland for a European tour.

Sharing a picture of himself in the plane on his Instagram page, he captioned the post: “Euro tour kicks off tonight in Zurich.”

Prior to this, Seun Kuti had expressed appreciation to his legal team for making his release from police custody possible, he also thanked his wife and well wishes.  

He wrote: ”I want to say a profound thanks to everyone who showed me all this love. All my friends that showed up! Thanks most especially to my beautiful wife @chef yeidikuti,”
