Tems sang with prisoners in  Uganda, Manager says

Tems in 2020, admitted that she and Omah Lay were arrested and detained in Uganda after flouting COVID-19 guidelines

Muyiwa Awoniyi, manager of Nigerian singer and songwriter, Temilade Openiyi better known as Tems has told a fascinating story about the Grammy-award winner. 

According to him, the talented artiste conducted praise and worship with  her prison cellmates while she was detained in Uganda in 2020.

Prior to the confession, Tems had admitted that she and flow Nigerian artistes, Stanley Omah Didia aka Omah Lay and some of their team members were arrested and detained in Kampala, Uganda in December 2020 after flouting COVID-19 guidelines.

Recounting the event while featuring as a guest on the latest episode of Menisms’ audiovisual podcast hosted by Olumurewa and Michael Sonariwo, Awoniyi said Tems did not only lead the praise singing session, the prisoners sang along with her.

He said, “Entering prison, as a woman, Tems, they [prison warders] took her to the female section. I was just worried about her. I was not with her. I was just wondering what the hell is going on [with her?].

“I will come to find out that Tems conducted praise and worship in a whole prison cell. Everybody was singing with her. She took over the whole prison.”

He went further to describe the singer’s experience during the period as “heartbreaking”.
