Ashraf Sanusi, son of former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and deposed Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has berated the Nigerian Police for arresting a lady who allegedly defrauded a German citizen.

TheNiche earlier reported that operatives of the Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU), Ikoyi-Lagos, arrested a 21-year-old lady, Atuonah Cynthia Chioma, for fraudulently converting, stealing, and obtaining the sum of $220,000 (N164 million) by false pretence from a German citizen.

It was also gathered that the suspect, a 2019 graduate of Economics, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka; who claimed to be a model and businesswoman, lured the 50-year-old victim on Instagram by feigning romantic intentions towards him, thereby gaining the victims’ trust and goodwill.

Reacting to the development via his Instastory, Ashraf claimed the action of the Nigerian lady was bad, but argued she didn’t steal the German’s money, since he willingly gave it to her.

He wrote: “Technically, she didn’t do anything illegal, right? Since he sent her money willingly not as payment for good or service, she’s not meant to be arrested. What she did is bad, but not illegal.”

He went on to insist that there is no known law against immorality, as he added: “Again, what she did is very wrong, but they [police] are not legally allowed to arrest her because she promised to marry someone and didn’t do it. And they are not allowed to reverse the money as it was given willingly even though the person was expecting something else.”
