Opposition parties won’t tolerate intimidation, using security agents to harass

By Jeph Ajobaju, Chief Copy Editor

Shehu Sani has warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) opposition parties will not tolerate its intimidation of voters in the governorship ballot, citing Kaduna where Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members are being incarcerated.

Sani, former Senator for Kaduna Central now a strident critic of Governor Nasir el-Rufai and Abuja, lamented intimidation of opposition party members has escalated since the APC lost the state to the PDP in the presidential ballot on February 25.

He alerted the APC is hiding under insecurity to harass supporters of other parties in the run up to the governorship and state Assembly election on March 11.

“The APC lost the election in Kaduna on the 25th of February; attempts to use security agents in order to intimidate and harass members of the opposition because of the [18th] of March governorship election will not be tolerated. @OfficialDSSNG @PoliceNG,” Sani tweeted, per Daily Post.

He said security agents have arrested Kaduna PDP Media Director Saidu Adamu and other members of the party to squash free and fair elections in the state.

“Yesterday in Kaduna, security agents have arrested the Media Director of the State PDP campaign Committee … Saidu Adamu, an ex Commissioner. They have also arrested two youth leaders, El Abbas Muhammed and Talib. Agents should allow free elections in Kaduna.”

Rise up against anarchists trying to sabotage 2023 ballot, Sani calls out

Sani previously warned that those razing down Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) offices, ballot boxes, power generators, voting cubicles, office furniture, and voter cards are anarchists seeking to keep Nigeria in the grip of callous political leaders.

“The ultimate aim of those attacking and burning down INEC offices is to sabotage the coming general elections.

“They are enemies of democracy. It’s a patriotic duty for people to defy violence and rise up against those anarchists,” Sani tweeted in November 2022.

He was reacting to escalated attacks on INEC infrastructure three months out from the critical ballot to determine who rules Nigeria, the old brigade doing the same vile thing or a new breed that will banish the works of malevolent men.
