Nigerians call for withdrawal of INEC Chairman’s visa

Taking to social media, these Nigerians signed a petition asking US, Canada and UK to cancel the INEC Chairman’s visa for allegedly manipulating Saturday’s elections

Nigerians have accused Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu of mishandling Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections. 

They also asked the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom to cancel his visa for manipulating the general election.

INEC commenced the elections late in some places due to logistical challenges and violence, it was also unable to upload polling unit results on its result viewing portal (IRev).

Reacting to these developments,  some Nigerians took to a website, change.org and signed a petition calling for the withdrawal of the visa of the head of the electoral commission.  

A netizen identified as @osusu 1k started the petition after alleging the INEC chairman was rigging Nigeria’s Presidential 2023 Election in favour of the ruling party, APC.

Some of those who signed the petition also have these to say about the INEC Chairman.

Enabulele wrote: “He is helping to steal the people’s mandate as the results announced are completely different from Results in the election”.

Another netizen, Mrs Emecheta said: “Yakoob Mohammed the INEC chairman has literally set NIGERIA on fire by rigging the presidential election for 2023 in favor of Tinubu of APC “

Ufuoma Odogbor added: “He as leader of INEC of Nigeria, disenfranchised the votes of citizens, enabling rigging, leading to the loss of lives, he needs to be held accountable. If “

Another internet user, Theodoree Ajulufoh wrote: “Because the election he conducted in Nigeria is not credible and he is about to lead Nigerian to disintegration”

While Ugochukwu Irobi said: “He’s subverting the will of the people”

As of the time of writing this story, a total of 44, 900 people have signed the petition
