Manchester United legend and former Three Lions defender, Gary Neville, has labelled North London club, Arsenal the “2022/2023” English Premier League (EPL) champions.

The pundit made the assertion ahead of Tuesday night’s Premier League fixture between the Gunners and high flying Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium.

It all started when Neville expressed surprise at the news that West London club, Chelsea, are willing to cough up a huge sum of money to secure the services of Argentina striker, Enzo Fernandez, shortly after winning the World Cup.

He tweeted: “Are Chelsea paying €127m for Enzo Fernandez? That’s one hell of a price. A very good player but bloody hell!”

Reacting to his tweet, an Arsenal fan wondered why he didn’t make a similar comment when his former team, Manchester United paid a combined £253M for England defender, Harry Maguire and two strikers, Antony and Jadon Sancho.

“You never said anything about £80M for Harry Maguire, €100M for Antony or £73M for Jadon Sancho but Arsenal paying £50M for Ben White or Chelsea paying €127M for Enzo is where you find your voice.” He queried.

Replying, Neville tried to ease out of the banter by labeling the Gunners as the next EPL “champions”, he said: “Relax Arsenal fans I’m coming to see the 2022/23 champions tonight. Congratulations”.

Arsenal are currently seven points ahead of champions, Manchester City, who are in the second position on the log and nine ahead of the Magpies in third.

The Gunners will be hoping to maintain their title push when they host Eddie Howe’s men by beating them at home.
