Let geriatric politicians retire, the time has come for Nigeria to rebuild, he says

By Jeph Ajobaju, Chief Copy Editor

Peter Obi has urged weak and feeble geriatric men to retire from politics and let the younger folk rescue and restore Nigeria through a vibrant presidential candidate who understands the national problems and how to solve them.

He made the plea at a parley with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) before his stump in Uyo, saying he could not imagine being represented by anyone in a rally that concerns his mission to render service.

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) pledged his commitment to build the Ibaka Deep Seaport in Akwa Ibom if elected President.

It will not be a favour done to Akwa Ibom, he said, but part of his strategic move to open more economic gateways for Nigeria.

Fielding questions on the conviction of his Campaign Director General Doyin Okupe for money laundering, Obi said the witch-hunt of people on his campaign team would not break his resolve to become President.

“I am hearing about it (the conviction) just like you. I am still studying what is coming out of the courts and everything. I believe in the rule of law. It is not going to demoralise me.”

“Today, when I arrived Akwa Ibom, somebody asked me why I haven’t been using my aircraft because it has been grounded and all that and I said to him that nothing demoralises me.

“In my life, I have never stayed where they dropped me; otherwise, I would have been where they dropped me before.”

Out to destroy corrupt national political structure

On the claim that he does not have a political structure to win the Villa, Obi said he is determined to dismantle the existing political structure in Nigeria which encourages corruption and spreads poverty among citizens, per The Guardian.

“The structure they have today is the structure we want to destroy. It is the structure of criminality. It is the structure that produced 133 million people living in poverty, it is the structure that produced 20 million out of school children.

“It is the structure that has made Nigeria surpass India in infant mortality. It is the structure that will destroy Nigeria and we want to destroy that structure.”

Obi said he wants to make Nigeria a country of production rather than a consumer nation.
