Wike urges those against Muslim-Muslim ticket to balance power equation

By Jeph Ajobaju, Chief Copy Editor

Nyesom Wike, Rivers Governor and G5 arrowhead, has urged opponents of Muslim-Muslim ticket to also oppose the retention of presidential power in the North after the tenure Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 because there is no justification for it.

He alerted them to the neglect of rotation of the Presidency between the North and the South, citing the abandonment of zoning in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that enabled Atiku Abubakar to grab the ticket.

He spoke at the dedication service for the Rivers PDP 2023 General Election Campaign Rallies at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Port Harcourt.

Wike argued in a statement he issued through his Media Assistant Kelvin Ebiri that those who doublespeak are trying to hoodwink the gullible, and they know they are insulting the sensibility of Nigerians who desire a united country.

“You play on people’s intelligence; you say Nigeria is not ripe for Muslim-Muslim ticket, I agree. But Nigeria is ripe for Presidency to remain in one zone? I mean, just look at the insult. You blow hot and cold,” he said.

Imperative of power rotation between North and South

The Nation reports Wike asked people condemning the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the All Progressives Alliance (APC) to also know Nigerians are equally against the retention of the Presidency in the North after Buhari.

“Most of you just sit there, you don’t ask yourselves questions. Somebody continues to sell this kind of cheap ideas.

“You don’t ask the person, ‘I agree with what you are saying, but look at what we are saying here. Your party wants the Presidency to go to the same zone where President Muhammadu Buhari comes from. Who is cheating who?’”

Wike reminded the church to participate in the voting process but warned it against serving as cannon fodder for any political party or actor.

He pleaded with the church to be careful and resist politicians who try to mobilise it as if there is a religious war to wage.

“It is not now that politics have come, you want to come and tell the church a different story for your own personal interest.”
