Delta will not allow NSF 2022 facilities rot away, says LOC

Onyeacholam says: “While other States allow their Youth to roam the streets hawking products, others end up as motor park touts, but Delta State Youths have been empowered in different sports all over the world.”

former Swimming Director and Delta 2022 local organising Committee (LOC) member Steve Onyeacholam, has assured that sports facilities currently in place for the National sports Festival would not lack proper maintenance
.
He said this against the backdrop of the ugly habits of most government who allow newly installed facilities to rot away after the end of competitions.


“Delta acquired the latest sports equipment in the country for the hosting of the National Sports Festival and would not fall short to maintain them,” Onyeacholam said.

According to him, in Delta State, sports is a culture and strong Youth empowerment tool which no government jokes with. He said It has assisted the state in engaging the youthful population. Onyeacholam says while other states allow their youth to roam the streets hawking products, others end up as motor park touts.

“But Delta State Youths have been empowered in different sports all over the world. Therefore, the state is duty bound to maintain it’s sports facilities all year round.”

He also alluded to the fact that the state doesn’t allow it’s former sports icons to waste in retirement as they remain relevant to groom younger talents to stardom.

“Thats why personality like myself who had retired 11 years ago is still here helping out,” he said.


Onyeacholam who all his life majored in swimming, has developed the state’s swimmers such that they have become a force in the annals of swimming in Nigeria.


He assured that Delta sports development would continue with each government that comes to power, engage the youth population and keep them away from dangerous peer group influences.
