Former Spurs goalkeeper, Paul Robinson, has said the decision of Nigerian midfielder, Alex Iwobi, to throw his shirt at Everton fans after suffering a humiliating 3-0 loss on Saturday was a wrong move.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former England international, however, praised Iwobi saying the midfielder has been one of the shining lights for his club this season.

The Toffees went over to their fans at full-time to show their appreciation after they traveled to watch their away game, in which they suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of fellow Premier League side, Bournemouth.

That would be the second time in a week that Frank Lampard’s side had suffered defeat at the Vitality Stadium, as they were beaten 4-1 by the same team in the EFL Cup’s 3rd round earlier in the week.

Everton’s travelling supporters were visibly angry in the aftermath of Saturday’s defeat and the Nigeria international saw this first-hand after he handed his shirt to the crowd, but it was quickly thrown back onto the pitch.

When asked for his thoughts on what transpired between the fans and the players, Robinson said, “A lot of the time players go over to fans to say thanks. They want to show their appreciation for the fact that they have spent money to come and watch them.

“The players will know they have been poor and they will have been almost embarrassed to go over. They are not looking for the fans applause. They just wanted to show appreciation.

“Look, Iwobi should not have thrown his shirt in. That was a bad choice probably. Sharing your shirt is something done in a time of celebration.

“In Iwobi’s defence, he has been one of their best players this season. I really like the way he is playing.”
