The presidential candidate of the Labour Party LP), Mr. Peter Obi, on Monday, met with former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, at his residence in Abeokuta.
The meeting which was not publicised was, however, disclosed by Obi, former governor of Anambra State, in a tweet.
“I deeply appreciate the opportunity to hold extensive discussions with President Olusegun Obasanjo earlier today on arising national interest matters. As usual, the exchanges were forthright and animated,” Obi tweeted using his verified Twitter hand @PeterObi.
Obi has met many times with the former president including a meeting held recently in London.
The discussions and outcome of those meetings are not usually disclosed.
But sources close to the former president say he has sympathy for the candidacy of Peter Obi, though he has not openly endorsed any candidate.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television recently, Chief Akin Osuntokun, who was a political adviser to Obasanjo in the Villa, disclosed that the former President may be supporting Obi.

“I think so,” he said when asked if Obasanjo is supporting Obi.
Osuntokun, former chieftain of the PDP who is now the South West Labour Party leader compared the support base of the LP presidential candidate with that of former U.S. President, Barack Obama, when he ran for the presidency in 2008.
Like Obama, Obi’s candidacy is resonating with the youths who have turned the campaign into a movement called Obidients Movement, holding massive rallies across the length and breadth of the country.
“Where I am (Labour Party) is consistent with the position I have taken in the past two years. Logically I am being consistent with my position,” Osuntokun explained when asked why he left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the LP.
He said for the country to move forward, Nigerians must reject both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and PDP at the ballot box in 2023.
