Lekki driver steals boss’s property on first day at work

The police inspector said the Lekki driver committed the offence on his first day of work, adding that he ran away with two iPhones worth N600,000 and one Apple laptop.

The police have arraigned a 46-year-old driver, Samuel Harrison, for stealing his employer’s property on his first day of duty in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

He was arraigned on two counts of conspiracy and stealing before Magistrate O. O Fajana of a Magistrate Court in Ikeja on Wednesday.

The defendant was charged with stealing his employer’s car and other valuables worth N8.1 million.

The prosecutor, Inspector Funmilayo Akinleye, told the court that the driver allegedly committed the offence on July 9, 2022 in Lekki area of the state.

Akinleye said one Janet Essien had hired the defendant to be her driver.

The defendant, however, ran away with the car after she dropped Essien at the salon.

Akinleye said the Lekki driver committed the offence on his first day of work, adding that he ran away with two iPhones worth N600,000 and one Apple laptop worth N550,000 that were inside the car.

The prosecutor said the value of the car and other valuables was N8.1 million, adding that the alleged offences were contrary to Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The Lekki driver pleaded guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Fajana ordered the defendant to be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre and adjourned the case till September 28 for sentencing.
