Borno CAN rejects Muslim-Muslim ticket, says report of support false

By Jeph Ajobaju, Chief Copy Editor

Media report from the North quoting Christian support in Borno for the Muslim-Muslim ticket floated by the All Progressive Congress (APC) has been denied by state Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Chairman Mohammed Naga.

Down South, former Abia Military Administrator Frank Ajobena, a retired Air Vice Marshal who is an APC national caucus member, has also dismissed the Muslim duet of Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima as inhuman and unacceptable.

Ajobena announced his departure from the APC for relegating Christians.

Naga is the founder of the Pentecostal Believers Covenant Church (PBCC) in Maiduguri, where he is a Bishop.

He described as false report claiming that he expressed support for the Muslim-Muslim ticket, saying it was twisted from an interview he granted five years ago.

Interview granted in 2017

Naga said he granted the interview to some journalists on 3 April 2017 when Shettima, who is now a Senator, was Borno Governor.

He expressed shock that an unprofessional journalist would mischievously lift such an interview and report it as if it was granted on 11 July 2022.

“I granted no interview to anybody on Monday 11th July 2022. It was mischievous propaganda, seeking cheap popularity on my character,” Naga said, per Vanguard.

He disclosed that he has summoned a meeting of all CAN representatives in Borno and national body after which a further statement will be issued on the false report.

Ajobena quits APC

Ajobena issued a statement which announced his own reaction and quitting the APC for its brazen attempt to sideline Christians in Nigeria.

“The decision of the APC presidential candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu to run for President on a Muslim-Muslim ticket is the highest level of insensitivity to the feelings of persons of the Christian faith in Nigeria,” he said.

“It smacks of arrogance and a total disrespect of us the Christian members of the APC. It portrays us as people who can easily be bought over with money.

“In what capacity will I be serving on his campaign train? As a slave? A man must stand for something or he will fall for anything. I quit the APC.”
