Uncertainty over whereabout of Abba Kyari, Dariye, Nyame, other VIPs after Kuje prison attack

The Kuje attacks, which caught guards at the facility unawares, threw the entire area into confusion, with at least 600 inmates on the run.

There have been fears that some of the high-profile inmates at the Kuje Correctional Centre cannot be accounted for after terrorists seized the facility and breakout about 64 of their commanders being held there.

The terrorists were said to have operated for hours and overpowered the military and prison guards on duty.

The question resonating on social media is where the suspended deputy commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari and his men who were in the facility over their alleged involvement in cocaine trafficking.

Former Plateau Governor Joshua Dariye and his Taraba counterpart Jolly Nyame who had been granted a pardon by the National Council of States were also in the facility during the attack. The Federal Government was yet to effect their release as of the time of the attacks. It is not clear about their whereabouts at the time of filing this report.

Also, the former chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, was also being held in the facility at the time of the attack. No news about him yet.

Recall that the minister of defence, Bashir Magashi, revealed that all the 64 Boko Haram terrorists being held at the Kuje prison escaped after daredevil terrorists struck about 10:30 pm at the Kuje Correctional Centre.  

The Kuje attacks, which caught the guards at the facility unawares, threw the entire area into confusion.

It was learnt the first explosion, a high-capacity bomb, went off around 10.25 pm.

Some accounts said It was followed by second and third blasts as well as sporadic gunshots which left the residents scampering into safety.

Media reports indicated that there was an intelligence tip-off about the attacks hours before it happened.

It could not be ascertained if steps were taken to prevent the attacks as of the time of filing this report.
