1. Liz Benson

Liz Benson, born 29th of April 1966, from Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State is a famous Nollywood actress, television personality, evangelist, and philanthropist. She began acting when she was just 5 years old. She has a degree in Dramatic Arts from Sylvania State College, United States of America.

The veteran actress became popular when she featured in Fortunes, a television soap opera in 1993. Benson played the part of Mrs. Agnes Johnson in the soap, which ran for about two years on the Nigerian Television Authority network.

Liz Benson’s first movie was Circle of Doom where she played a minor role in the movie. In 1994, her role in Glamour Girls, a very successful home video film that focused on the theme of prostitution, literally changed her fortune after Fortunes.

The movie shot her into prominence and gradually she warmed her way into the minds of millions of Nigerian movie fans. The actress also starred in the movie, Busted which was released in 2017. She featured alongside the likes of Kate Henshaw, Paul Obazele and Ik Ogbonna.

Liz is regarded as one of Nollywood’s first women by the majority of moviegoers in Nigeria. Surprisingly, just when her rating as a leading actress had begun to rise even higher than expected, Benson suddenly quit acting in 1996.

She became a born-again Christian and started preaching the gospel. The Ibibio-born actress took another shot at marriage after her conversion.

In a quiet court ceremony in Abuja, She got married to Bishop Great Ameye of Freedom Family Assembly in 2009 at the Rainbow Christian Assembly in Warri, Delta State. The couple is deeply involved in a Christian Evangelical Ministry. While Benson is an evangelist, her husband, Emeya, is a pastor in Warri, Delta State.

Benson lost her first husband (Samuel Gabriel Etim) while around her mid-twenties. She said that she actually gained strength from his character and that made her able to carry on with her children through the loss.

2. Nse Ikpe-Etim

Nse Ikpe Etim is a Nigerian actress, television personality, businesswoman, a self-proclaimed foodie, an enthusiastic gamer, a conference speaker, and an advocate for women living with Adenomyosis (a medical condition of the female reproductive system which causes the uterus to thicken and enlarge.)

The award-winning actress was born on the 21st of October, 1974, in Lagos State, as the first child of her parents’ six children. Her parents are from Akwa Ibom state.

She attended Awa Nursery School and Command Primary School Kaduna, respectively.

After she completed her primary education, her parents enrolled her at St Louis College, Jos, where she schooled for a while before moving on to the Federal Government College in Jos and later on to Ilorin.

She went to different schools because her father, who worked with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was often transferred to different parts of the country. Nse Etim got her first degree in Theater Arts from the University of Calabar.

At 18, Etim started acting on stage at the university. Her first television appearance was in the family soap Inheritance. After her graduation from university, she temporarily left the film industry to venture in other endeavours before making a comeback with Emem Isong’s Reloaded alongside Ramsey Nouah, Rita Dominic, Ini Edo and Desmond Elliot. She came into prominence for her role in Reloaded.

She was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 5th and 8th Africa Movie Academy Awards for her role in Reloaded and Mr. and Mrs. respectively. In 2014, she won the Best Actress in a Drama award at the 2014 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards for playing “Nse” in Journey to Self.

In an interview with Toolz, she stated that she’s had Caucasian Godparents (someone who bears witness to a child’s christening and later is willing to help in their lifelong spiritual formation.)

She married her childhood friend Clifford Sule on 14 February 2013 at a Lagos registry. A traditional wedding ceremony followed in her hometown in Akwa Ibom State and Lagos State, respectively, some months after the civil union.

She currently resides in London with her husband, a senior lecturer at Middlesex University who frequents Nigeria for film engagements.

In December 2019, Nse Etim was featured in the Visual Collaborative Polaris catalog, under the Supernova series for humanities, she was interviewed alongside people such as; William Coupon, Bisila Bokoko and Ade Adekola.

Iniobong Edo Ekim is a Nigerian actress, producer and entrepreneur. She began her film career in 2000. Today, Ini Edo has appeared in over 100 films, and is one of the richest and highly paid actresses in Nigeria. Undoubtedly, she is a famous actress in the Nigerian film industry, Nollywood.

The gorgeous actress was born on April 23, 1982 in Akwa Ibom. She was born as the second of four children, into a family where there was strict upbringing. Her father was an elder in the Church, and her Mother, a Teacher. Ini Edo is an Ibibio, the second of four children, three girls, one boy.

Ini Edo attended Cornelius Connely College, Uyo. She then moved to the University of Uyo where she graduated with a Diploma in Theatre Arts. In 2004, she rose to stardom after featuring in the film, World Apart with Kenneth Okonkwo and veteran actress Liz Benson. She has featured in more than 100 movies since that time.

In 2013, she was announced as a judge for the Miss Black Africa UK Pageant.  She has been GLO brand ambassador for ten years from 2006 to 2016.

In 2010 she was named to be the brand ambassador of noble hair. Ini edo is brand ambassador of SlimTea Nigeria.

Ini Edo was appointed The Special Assistant to the Akwa Ibom State Governor on Culture And Tourism, by Udom Gabriel Emmanuel in 2016 and is currently holding the office till date.

6. Angel Samuda

Angel Samuda Samuel, born 23 March 1985, is a Nigerian actress, model and television personality. She was born in Ibiono Ibom LGA, Akwa Ibom State, a South-South geographical area of Nigeria occupied predominantly by the minority tribes in Nigeria.

Angel completed both her schooling in her home town in Akwa Ibom where she obtained her West African Senior School Certificate. Angel then proceeded to the University of Calabar in Cross River State where she graduated with a B.A degree (Modern Languages and International Studies).

Beautiful Angel Samuda debuted her first professional acting career at an early age in movies like Virgin on fire, Anna, Lekki landlord, and The road not taken.

She was born on October 17th, 1986 in her hometown of Oron, Akwa Ibom state, Nigeria.  She lived her early life in Akwa Ibom State, where she attended Immaculate Conception Secondary School in Itak-Ikono. She proceeded to the University of Calabar, Cross River state where she studied Theatre Arts.

Esin, an award-winning Nollywood actress became a Nollywood actress after taking up a banking job which she eventually had to leave. She went for a movie audition in 2008, after which she joined the Nigeria movie industry (Nollywood) and landed her first role in a movie.

8. Obot Etuk

Obot Etuk, born on February 15, is a famous Nollywood actress and a television personality from Ikot Abasi LGA of Akwa Ibom.

She started her early education with Army Children’s School, Rukuba Barracks, Jos and she finished in the Theatre Arts department of the University of Calabar.

The Akwa Ibom born actress started her acting career in secondary school, but then it was like a show-off thing. But professionally, she started in NTA Aba with Hanky-Panky and Retribution. Then The Battle of Musanga and Today.

The actress- turned- Pastor got married at the tender age of 15 years old and started having kids almost immediately. During  media interviews, she has this to say; “We got married in 1985 and divorced in 2002. The marriage did not last long. We were young when we got married. I was 15 years old then and he was 18 years old then.”

Obot Etuk had 3 kids in her marriage before she finally divorced her husband.

She has starred in several Nollywood movies such as Wedding (2004), Suicide Mission (1998) and Bandit Queen (2005).

Etuk who took a long break from acting is said to be an ordained minister in Manchester UK.

9. Regina Askia

Regina Askia is a famous Nollywood actress, producer, model, television personality, social activist and an American-based registered nurse.

She was born on 17th May 1967 in Lagos State in the southwestern part of Nigeria. She is originally from Ukanafun, a small village in Akwa Ibom State in the south southern part of Nigeria. She is very beautiful, intelligent, creative, gifted and talented and has been described as Nollywood best actress of all time and also Nollywood most beautiful actress of all time.

The Former Nigerian beauty queen had so much passion for acting at a very tender age and wanted to study a course related to Theatre, Drama or Performing Arts in the university. While growing up Regina Askia has done so many stage performances and has acted in several stage dramas. Regina Askia has acted in over 150 Nollywood movies. Some of the movies she has acted include Slave Warrior, Festival of Fire, Dangerous Babe, Man Snatcher, Full Moon, High Way to the Grave, Vuga, The President’s Daughter, Veno, Suicide Mission, Queen of the Night, Dirty Game, Maximum Risk, Most Wanted and several others.

She has quit acting and has relocated to the United States of America with her family, where she is currently practicing as a full time registered nurse.

10. Ini Ikpe 

Ini Ikpe is a popular Nigerian actress and media personality.

Ikpe is an Ibibio from Akwa Ibom state in the South-South part of Nigeria. Her mother was a teacher, and her father an Elder in Church. She had a strict upbringing, the fourth of six children, four girls, and two boys.

She attended Cornelius Connely College in Calabar for her secondary school alongside with Ini Edo.

She began her film career in 2003, and has acted over 100 movies since that time. In 2012, she was awarded best supporting actress for the   movie Kokomma

Kokomma received three nominations at the 9th Africa Movie Academy Awards, with Effah winning the award for Most Promising Actor for her comic role in the film. It was released on DVD in September 2012.

The tall and elegant actress screen idol got into acting through her friend Ini Edo and Emem Isong. Her acting career started with her debut in Yahoo Millionaire. 

Ini Ikpe movies include Weekend Getaway (2012), Kokomma (2012), Unroyal Majesty (2020), The Greatest Sacrifice, I’ll Take My Chances and many more.

Ini Ikpe is married to Joe Etukudoh, who is the Special Assistant to Akwa Ibom State Governor on Diaspora affairs. She tied the knot with her heartthrob at a colorful traditional marriage which took place in her hometown, Etinan local government area of Akwa Ibom State.

Susan Patrick is a veteran Nollywood actress from Akwa Ibom state.

Beautiful gap-toothed Susan Patrick came into the limelight in 1998 after she acted in the movie ‘Sakobi: The Snake Girl’, starring alongside Saint Obi in Zeb Ejiro’s film.

Susan Patrick’s movies include Glamour Girls (1994), Tears in Heaven, Christian Marriage, Women in Love (2006), Executive Billionaires (2004) and Golden Heart (2007) among others.

The Nollywood thespian was one of the most sought-after Nollywood actresses in the early ’90s. She was alleged to have snatched another woman’s hubby while a student at Lagos State University (LASU).  She had two children from the marriage.

She was born on 13 November, 1984 in Ibadan, Oyo State in the western part of Nigeria. She is the only female child in a family of four children comprising of three boys and one girl.

Annie Macaulay Idibia is originally from Eket in Akwa Ibom State in the south southern part of Nigeria. Annie Macaulay Idibia grew up in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria alongside with her family, where she completed both her primary and secondary school education. She moved to Lagos with her mother after the divorce of her parents.

Her mother got a job with Mobil working as a cook to support the family. Thereafter, they moved to Jakande Estate and later to Thomas Estate in Lekki, Lagos State, Nigeria. At the age of 15 years old, Annie Macaulay Idibia lost her younger brother to tuberculosis disease.

After completing her secondary school education, Annie Macaulay Idibia proceeded to Lagos State University (LASU) and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science. After that, she proceeded to University of Lagos (UNILAG) and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Theatre Arts.

In 2009, Annie Macaulay Idibia joined the Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood) and acted in her first movie “Pleasure and Crime”. After the success of her first movie, Annie Macaulay Idibia acted in another blockbuster movie “Blackberry Babes” a movie that brought her to limelight. In 2009, Annie Macaulay Idibia was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Best of Nollywood Awards.

Prior to the start of acting career, Annie Macaulay Idibia has competed for the “Queen of All Nations Beauty Pageant” where she was placed as the first runner-up. After which she went on to feature in a cameo appearance on the music video of 2face Idibia “African Queen” alongside Yvonne Jegede.

The ravishing actress met her husband 2Face Idibia in 1999 and they started dating in 2002. Their relationship was constantly plagued with 2face Idibia cheating scandals. Though, there were times they had differences during courtship but the bond they shared and the love for each other took them to the altar.

Mbong Odungide Amata was born in 1985 and she hails from Akwa Ibom State in south southern Nigeria. She is a Nigerian model, actor, and film producer.

Mbong is also a humanitarian, since she is the founder of the Tickle-Us foundation, which works to care for Africa’s less fortunate mothers and children.

Mbong Amata began her career in the Nigerian entertainment industry when she competed for Miss Akwa Ibom in 2003 at the age of sixteen.

She won the “Most Beautiful Girl” (Akwa Ibom) in 2003, and was the 2nd runner up in the 2004 Miss Nigeria. In 2001 at an audition in Calabar she met Jeta Amata. Two years later when she was 18 they began dating. They married in 2008 and their daughter Veno was born later that year. In 2013 they separated and in 2014 they divorced.

She has acted in several films including Black November, Forgetting June, and Inale.

Amata lives between Los Angeles and Lagos.

14. Theresa Edem

Theresa Edem Isemin is an actress, voice-over artist, writer, model and filmmaker. Popularly known as Tessy, she is one of the rising stars of the Nigerian Entertainment industry.

Theresa Edem is a Nigerian actress who was born on January 6th, 1986. She comes from Nigeria’s Akwa Ibom State and belongs to the Ibibio tribe.

Tessy is the last and only girl of four children. She attended primary school and secondary school in Akwa Ibom before heading off to university at the Federal University of Technology Owerri, Imo state where she graduated with a Bs. Tech. in Animal Science and Technology.

Since starting to act professionally in 2012, Theresa’s career has developed in leaps and bounds. She played her first major role in the Royal Arts Academy production, “After The Proposal”.

Following that, she featured in several stage plays, TV films and radio dramas, including, MTV’s Shuga Radio. Her big break came in 2014, when she was asked to play “Angela Dede” on M-Net Tinsel.

Following her success on Tinsel, Theresa has gone on to portray several major characters in films and TV series, the most notable of these being, “Princess Ama” in Ayamma, “Isioma” on Hotel Majestic and “Rita” in This Thing Called Marriage. In addition to that, she has starred in several Africa Magic Original Films (AMOFs) such as While We Worked Things Out, alongside Chris Attoh and Bakers Daughter, alongside Deyemi Okanlawon.

She has written several short stories and screenplays, some of which she has developed into short films. Her first short film, “Grey Area” was released in 2014. She has since produced another film, “ENO”, which was directed by Yemi Morafa (Filmboy).

In December 2015, Theresa married her friend for many years, Ubong Isemin, in Uyo. She is a devout Christian and enjoys reading, solving puzzles, watching films/TV series and spending time with her family.

Didi Ekanem is a fast rising Nollywood actress. Asides her acting skills, she’s particularly popular for her big bum which she doesn’t hesitate to flaunt on social media.

Didi Ekanem was born in Akwa Ibom State to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Ekanem on the 27th of August, 1988.

Didi Ekanem attended the University of Port Harcourt where she studied Linguistics and Communications.

Prior to gaining admission into the University, Didi attended a couple of secondary schools. She initially attended Federal Government College, Ikot Ekpene before proceeding to Macdonald Memorial School where she completed her secondary education.

Mercy Ima Macjoe is a multi-award-winning Nigerian actress, film producer, performer, and entrepreneur. Mercy was born on June 20, 1993, as the sixth child of her parents.

Growing up wasn’t easy for Mercy. Her father was a soldier at the time, but he passed away when she was a child. Her mother had to raise her among her other siblings as it was.

Mercy is originally from Akwa Ibom State, although she grew up in Lagos. Akwa Ibom is a Nigerian state located in the south.

She obtained her second degree at National Open University where she studied Mass Communication. She is best known for her roles in Jenna and Magdalene.

In 2018, she was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress award at the City People Awards and received the award for Best Independent Short Film at the Hollywood and African Prestigious Awards in 2019.

Mercy Macjoe began her film career in 2011, with a role in the movie Lonely Princess alongside veteran actor Mercy Johnson. She has also starred in other numerous movies such as Zenith of Love, Midnight Crew, Bread of Life, Girl Next Door, Shame, Madalene, Crown Queen, Roayl First Class, Brazilian hair babes, Blackberry babes 2 and many others.

Mercy Macjoe has worked with top actors such as Mike Ezeruonye, Peggy Ovire and so on. She described one of her challenging roles in the movie “Spit on your Grave” where she wore bra and boxer shorts throughout the movie. She also produced her first movie titled “Red” in 2018.
