The Political Action Committee for Good Governance, (PACGG) has thrown its weight behind Akogun Tokunbo Modupe (TPT) for the office of the senate, representing Ondo North Senatorial District under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The group, led by its Chairman, Ojo (Ologbojo) Akinwale in a statement said the track records of Tokunbo Modupe were enough to make him a good Senator that Ondo North Senatorial District truly deserve.

Akinwale noted that Modupe will bring excellent credentials to this position saying that he is tremendously active and exceptionally vocal, a necessary quality a competent senator must have or possessed.

His words, “TPT is intelligent, articulate, outspoken, and dedicated. He is one aspirant who has the temperament and skill to make positive changes for the betterment of the constituents.

“Over these past weeks, Ondo North, his constituents have had the opportunity to observe and evaluate the perspectives and agendas of this young man for his district in the upcoming elections into the senate that are quite extraordinary, audacious, impressive and compassionate.

“In many of his life and lately, from his campaign tours, for instance, the group saw in Akogun TPT, honesty, pragmatism, fairness, thoughtfulness and hopeful insight into our community’s problems and needs, and his willingness to examine the issues and listen closely to the people’s questions and concerns, clearly sets him far apart from the other candidates’ expected techniques and empty talks.

“We are certain that he will not be reluctant to use those same qualities equitably to create a better balance between the office and the constituents, without a doubt”, he said.

He went on: “People elect their Senators with the expectation that they will fight for legislation that is in the best interest of the average citizen in his constituents, speaking with citizens about problems, concerns or suggestions they have for their district.

“His office takes phone calls and emails from his district who want to share their opinions, then review the information they receive to find out the stances of their constituents on various issues identified for solutions among other things

“But the truth is that most of these prescribed functions of a senator have been unfortunately neglected, perhaps intentionally, by the previous occupants of the office, in order to prevent arousal of people’s advertencies and keep them in the perpetuity of darkness”, he noted

According to him, sadly, those functions today, remain non-functioning as ever. And the more the Senate continue their gross dereliction in their functions and responsibilities and constituents remain rather complacent and offer little or no substantial uproar; indicating their discontent, the more profound are the implications, which could range from potential exacerbation their severe exclusion from profiting and benefitting from the dividends of a participatory democracy. And continue also to sufer from a profound lack of quality senatorial representations.

This is simply trifling and the status quo must not stayed and the urgency of pushing back this stench and incongruity, it now. Therefore, the constituents’ first step in showing its incredible eagerness towards embracing the growing narrative in support of the need predicated upon electing a candidate in person of TPT with a broad-based support and he is materially ready to serve his community as he should; starting with this upcoming election”, he said..

The PACGG Chairman noted that the election of Akogun Tokunbo Modupe will automatically reset all the aforesaid mentioned points raised against poor representation by all past failed Senators saying that TPT has already personified all of the above stated job descriptions. The evidence of this has been self-manifesting; starting with his daily interactions with large pools of business interests and associates at his private business place.

“He is a tremendously successful publicist; running a multi million naira corporate entity; coupled also with his past political involvements, including but not limited to his previous appointment as the Director General, the Jonathan reelection campaign organization, also proved to be a tremendous asset.

Akinwale pointed out that the group is not unmindful of the baseless rumors swirling around about whether or not Tokunbo Modupe is an Owo man saying that there was no merit to this rumor spread, it was simply an unwanted act of cowardice that cannot stand the test of time.

“The truth is that TPT has a root in Owo. Anyone who continues to spin otherwise is simply playing to the murky gallery to garner cheap publicity. TPT’s paternal and maternal parents are influential and well known families from both Owo and Ute in Ose. He has always claimed Ose as his local government, where he maintains a residence, registered to vote and as a voter, he has always been voting from that town. Additionally, TPT holds a very very powerful chieftancy title – the Akogun – from Ute. He is highly regarded and a consequential member cabinet of the town’s ruling council.

“Therefore, It is totally disingenuous for anyone to have alleged this wonderful young man of attempting to claim Owo as his township of his aspirational origin, when the opposite was actually the case.

“His political sojourned that launched him into political stardom from Ute was seemingly quite rapturous. It was dated as far back as 2005 at the instance and request of Dr Olusegun Mimiko, the then governor of ondo state, who was desperately seeking a way to put an end to oppositions dominance, responsible for repeated Labor Party (LP) extreme bad elections serial losses coming out of the Local Government council area, which was then under the firm grips, and controls of the likes of the former Senator Bode Olajumoke, Col Awodeyi and Denis Alonge, respectively.

“Dr Mimiko zeroed in on TPT because of the unique, tactical and strategic qualities he saw in this emerging young man, which others simply didn’t or see in Akogun TPT. For instance, Dr Mimiko saw a special and unbelievable leadership qualities – bold, courage, focus and ruggedness in Akogun, which classically fits the ideal qualities he (Dr Mimiko) had envisioning and looking for in a man that would lead Ose.

“To actualize his quest, Mimiko gave TPT the matching order, which effectively handed over leadership of Ose to him and Marshall him to do everything that ensures he delivered the Local government. As a loyal party person, TPT took the insurmountable task as a clarion call. And as an Akogun, he immediately swung into actions and completely decimated strangle-hold of the oppositions in that Local government. The rest was history as he turned the Local government into Labour Party column.

“Since then and under his leadership, he did put a dramatic halt and stopped the political hemorrhaging of the party, stemming from its serial losses in every elections from the Local government. He dramatically changed the narrative to the story a triumphal entry with a dominance and intimidating presence of the party in the LG.

“The group most admire TPT for his selfless stewardship and dedication to the party. His dual townships (Ose and Owo) background will also prove to be his strongest strength yet – a formidable asset of some sort, if you will. This unique background offers him a superior edge over and above any other aspirants in the race.

“Presently, there are no aspirants contesting under the party or in oppositions that has the strength or capacity to beat TPT in Ose, in any general election, this upcoming one inclusive. Certainly, he could easily put Ose in his winning columns without breaking a sweat, and Owo will not be too far of a reach for him, either, because of his strong root ties to the township.”

Akinwale therefore, prayed that If delegates believe in what TPT stands for, they should give him their votes saying if they want four more years of the uninspired and uninspiring leadership by the current occupant, Akogun TPT is probably not their candidate.

“But if you are ready for a dramatic change in the way this Senatorial District does business, vote for the one person (Akogun TPT) who can make things happen”, he added.
