Aisha Buhari modifies dinner criteria with aspirants after TheNiche’s story

Aisha Buhari’s spokesman said: “That does not apply to the Vice President. How can you expect that to apply to the Vice President or even to ministers?”

The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, and other serving ministers vying for the office of the president have been exempted from showing up with their invitation cards when they meet the First Lady, Aisha Buhari for a Ramadan Iftar (dinner).

TheNiche had reported that the First Lady invited all the aspirants gunning for the presidency of the country in the different political parties to a Ramadan dinner with on Saturday, April 23.

According to a copy of the invitation card obtained by TheNiche, the presidential aspirants are expected to present their invitation cards at the gate of the venue otherwise they may be turned back.

The presidential aspirants were also instructed to leave their phones behind when coming for the dinner.

TheNiche’s story pointed out that the Aisha Buhari’s dinner with the aspirants may present a dilemma to some of the presidential hopefuls, especially those of the All Progressives Congress (APC), like Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who by protocol, shouldn’t be expected to show up for a dinner with a gate pass.

According to Punch newspaper, the spokesperson of the First Lady, Aliyu Abdullahi, said the vice president and serving ministers are exempted from the dinner rules.

He said: “If they are coming for an event, this is supposed to be DSS enforced when the president is having an event or the Vice President is having an event or the first lady is having an event. Because outsiders will come. That’s the security and standard protocol.

“That does not apply to the Vice President. How can you expect that to apply to the Vice President or even to ministers?”
