IGP seeks prayers to fast track new salary structure for police

The Federal Government approved a new salary structure for the police after the #EndSARS protest. It’s implementation is now a matter of probability

Police officers have been urged to become prayer warriors so as to receive the approved new salary structure.

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, according to the Peoples Gazette, urged the police officers to pray hard so that the new salary will be paid to them by the end of the month.

According g to the report, IGP Baba gave the charge while delivering a lecture at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday. ..

He suggested that prayers by police officers may fast track the implementation of the new salary structure by March ending.

“He also informed members that the new salary may be paid at the end of this month, (March) and everyone should exercise patience and pray,” the report says.

Police officers have threatened to embark on strike to protest their poor salaries.

They noted that operatives of the Economic and financial crimes commission earn big while they collect peanut.

The acting force public relations officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, has debunked the report of a planned protest by police officers, describing it as “fake news.”

The officers listed unpaid emoluments, outdated weapons, poor working conditions among other reasons for the planned protest.

According to the Gazette, in a desperately veiled attempt to placate the disgruntled officers and quell strike agitations, the IGP offered to waive tax for all serving officers effective April 2022.

“The Inspector General of Police in his magnanimity has also ensured that all serving personnel be exempted from the payment of tax, with effect from April 2022,” reads the outcome of Mr Baba’s lecture.

Similarly, the IGP assured officers he was “working tirelessly” to ensure that ,”both serving and retired members of the Force are removed from the contributory pension scheme.”

Despite these promises, the new salary structure remains a huge probability with the IGP asking officers to pray for its implementation.
