The gesture is in line with his commitment to caring for poor and indigent people in society, and his monthly charitable outreach,

The former Anambra State Governor made the announcement when he addressed a mammoth crowd at Okunerere Adoration Ministry in Nsukka on March 1. He said that the 100 women to benefit from the empowerment programme would be chosen from the Ministry, pointing out that he was moved by the large number of indigent people who had gathered at the Ministry.

He narrated that the Spiritual Director of the Ministry, Rev Fr Paul Martin Obayi, had informed him that he doles out N10,000 each to 30 women every year, to enable them start small businesses. Obi then promised to support the women with N20,000 each, and also to increase the number of beneficiaries to 100.

Addressing the large crowd of worshippers at the Ministry, Obi said that his ultimate desire in life was to continue to be a blessing to the nation. He said that God has blessed him and he can only appreciate God by being a source of blessing to people he comes in contact with.

“Whatever I have achieved today is by the grace of God. Power, wealth and blessings; all come from God, and we can only use them to advance the cause of humanity,” Obi said.

On why he chose women as the main beneficiaries of his empowerment project, Obi explained that women play very critical roles in the family and empowering them is indirectly empowering the family.

While appreciating Fr Obayi for the good works he was doing in the Ministry for the spiritual and physical well-being of the people, Obi pledged to support the Ministry in its on-going construction of school, hospital and other developmental projects.

Appreciating Obi for his kindness, the Spiritual Director recalled that Obi had always brought Christmas items to the Ministry every year for the worshippers. He thanked Obi for his visit and empowerment of indigent women in the ministry, praying God to make Obi the President of the country so that he can touch more lives across the nation.
